Zero polling in four booths of Chandigarh's Ferozepur

Zero votings were recorded at four polling booths in Ferozepur Parliamentary Constituency in Punjab on Sunday. The Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab stated booths in question were part of an army cantonment and no voting took place at four polling booths for the army unit recently shifted to another the place.

Chandigarh: Ferozepur Parliamentary Constituency witnessed negligible polling at four booths in Punjab on the last phase of Lok Sabha election on Sunday. "There was no voter turnout at polling booth number 61, 62, 63 and 64 which were set at a school in the cantonment area of Ferozepur city," Punjab's Chief Electoral Officer S Karuna Raju said on Sunday evening.

He said that there were a total of 4,500 voters who were registered there. Raju claimed that he got the matter inquired and found that army units had shifted from this place, therefore no voting took place. Reportedly, 283 ballot units, 223 control units and 509 VVPATs were replaced at several places in Punjab.

"The replacement percentage was 0.06 percent for ballot units, 0.96 percent for control units and 2.19 percent for VVPATs," added Punjab Chief Electoral.

He further said that paramilitary forces had been deputed to secure the EVMs.Fifty-six companies of paramilitary forces will provide security to the electronic voting machines in the state.

Polling to 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab was held on Sunday.
