Idukki (Kerala):Idukki (Kerala): A six-year-old boy was beaten to death after a relative hit him with a hammer on the head following a quarrel among family members. The incident took place at Anachal in Idukki here in the early hours of Sunday.
The deceased boy is identified as Althaf, son of Riyaz of Amakandam Riyaz Manzil.

According to news agency IANS, Shahjahan, the accused is Althaf's aunt's husband. The two families live nearby. Recently, Althaf's aunt Sabitha parted ways with Shahjahan and has been living at her paternal house with the boy and his parents. Assuming that Althaf's mother was the reason for the rift between him and his wife, an infuriated Shahjahan barged into their house and attacked the family members. He attacked the boy's 15-year-old sister, too. However, she managed to run away and find shelter at a neighbour's house. Their mother and grandmother also were injured and rushed to hospital. Shajahan is absconding, police said.
Sudhir Khan, a neighbour told IANS, "We woke up on hearing cries and sounds in the neighbourhood and found that Althaf was unconscious and bleeding and we immediately took him to the hospital. He was declared brought dead."
An investigation has been launched.
