Encounter in J&K's Kulgam called off as militants give slip to forces

An encounter that was underway between security forces and militants in the Redwani area of south Kashmir district has been called off. According to officials, the militants managed to flee after the initial exchange of fire and hence the operation ended.

Kulgam (Kashmir): An encounter that was underway between security forces and militants in the Redwani area of south Kashmir district has been called off. Militants managed to flee after the initial exchange of fire and hence the operation ended, officials said.

Earlier in the day, an encounter had broken out between militants and security forces in the Redwani area of south Kashmir district on Friday. "A gunfight started at Redwani village of Kulgam district at around 1:30 am today. Joint teams of the police, army, and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area," a police official said, adding that when security forces approached the spot, the hiding militants opened fire upon them which led to retaliatory gunfire. As per the last received reports, the exchange of fire is currently underway, he added.

J&K: Gunfire between security forces and militants underway

As per reports, it was the third encounter in the past 24 hours in south Kashmir. Yesterday, four militants (3 from Lashkar-e-Taiba and one from Al-Badr) were killed in the gunfight at Pulwama and Kulgam.
