Police warn citizens against fake job offers

Police have urged citizens to be cautious as there are growing complaints about recruitment rackets as many people are without jobs in the wake of the pandemic and lockdowns.

Shimla (Himachal): Cybercriminal gangs are actively targeting youths who have lost their jobs due to Covid. In Shimla, a young woman trying to find a job online was duped of Rs 6 lakhs by a job racket.

The woman who was asked to deposit an advance amount for the job initially made a payment of Rs 2.59 lakh followed by 1.25 lakh. Later on April 25th, she was again asked to deposit an additional Rs 2 lakh while chatting with the employee of the company.

In this way, she deposited about 6 lakhs in the company's account.

However, after she had made the payment, she stopped receiving calls from the recruiting firm. Also, the girl's attempts to contact the company employee was of no avail.

When the girl revealed the whole incident to her family, the father of the girl filed a police complaint for cheating at the Chhota Shimla police station.

An investigation is underway.

Speaking about the incident, Shimla ASP Praveer Thakur says that cheating cases have increased and that many people are falling prey to online fraud.

He added that people should browse the internet consciously and not fall prey to cyber-criminals.
