• Counting of votes in Maharastra has come to an end.
• BJP won 23 seats while Shiv Sena won 18 out of total 48 seats in the state. 
• NCP had to satisfy itself with just 4 seats. 
• Congress won one seat while two independent candidates also won from the state.

Counting begins in Maharashtra

Mumbai:Maharashtra, the second largest constituency in India, has a total of 48 Lok Sabha seats in total. The state is likely to witness a direct fight between India’s ruling party - BJP and the opposition alliances in almost every constituency.

In the 2014 General Elections, Maharashtra contributed the second highest number of  MPs to the Lok Sabha, it gave 42 of its total 48 seats to the NDA.

Key candidates from Maharashtra:

Nitin Gadkari: The Union Minister for Surface Transport, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation is seeking re-election from Nagpur Lok Sabha seat. 

Ashok Chavan:The former Maharashtra Chief Minister and President of Maharashtra Congress is contesting from Nanded Lok Sabha seat in Marathwada region of the state. 

Parth Pawar: NCP supremo and Maratha strongman Sharad Pawar’s grandnephew is contesting from Maval Lok Sabha seat in western Maharashtra. 

Prakash Ambedkar:  The grandson of Dr.B.R.Ambedkar is contesting this election from Solapur and Akola seats in Maharashtra.

Priya Dutt: Late Congress leader Sunil Dutt’s daughter Priya Dutt is contesting from Mumbai North Central against late BJP stalwart Pramod Mahajan’s daughter Poonam Mahajan.
