Telangana prepares for phase 3 of Covid vaccination

Preparations are underway for the third phase of Covid vaccination in Telangana. Efforts are on to vaccinate those who are highly susceptible to the infection.

Hyderabad (Telangana): The Telangana state government is preparing for the third phase of covid vaccination. The government has decided to identify those who could be exposed to the virus - such as drivers, conductors, vegetable vendors, street vendors and shopkeepers.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had said that the government has decided to conduct a special drive to vaccinate them first.

He had already directed the District Collectors to prepare a list of super spreaders and government sources said that a decision on vaccinating them will be taken after receiving details from districts.

The government also mulls setting up special Covid vaccine centers for this purpose.

Meanwhile, the second dose of Covaxin vaccination began on Tuesday. Vaccination is given to all those above 45 years of age depending on the dosage availability provided by the Centre.

The state government had already procured nearly four lakh vaccine doses for those aged between 18 - 44 years old. It is said that more doses will be provided in June. Covishield and Sputnik-V are also expected to be available.

The government hopes to initiate a vigorous vaccination drive from July, as it expects more vaccines to be available through global tenders.
