J'khand woman files FIR against husband for recklessly uttering 'talaq' thrice

A woman from Jharkhand's Hazaribagh filed an FIR on Thursday against her husband for divorcing her by saying 'talaq' thrice after four years of marriage.

Hazaribagh (Jharkhand): Buoyed by the passing of the Triple Talaq Bill by Parliament, a Muslim woman on Thursday filed an FIR against her husband, who divorced her by saying talaq thrice in Hazaribagh district last month.

Inspector-cum-officer-in-Charge of Bishnugarh police station - Ganesh Kumar Singh - said that Subeda Khatoon, mother of three children, filed an FIR against her husband Dildaraj Ansari of Nawada locality accusing him of giving her talaq in July by recklessly uttering the word thrice.

She complained that he allegedly threw her out of the house after four years of marriage and regularly assaulted her. She also charged her husband with beating her regularly for dowry.

The woman told the police that she gathered courage after the triple talaq bill was passed by Rajya Sabha on July 30 and approached them.

The Inspector said that they lodged a case under section 498-A (punishment for subjecting a married woman to cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code and Dowry Act. The investigation is on, he added.

The residents of Bishnugarh praised Khatoon for her bravery and asked all the victims who had been tortured by their husbands to follow suit.

The Bishnugarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO)- Sahdeo Sao- said, We are studying this case carefully to ascertain whether triple talaq bill provision is applicable in this case or not. But he said that action against the husband will be initiated under 498-A and the Dowry Act.
