Gold worth over ₹80 lakh seized from truck, 3 held

Police has seized a truck carrying two and half kg gold on National Highway-24. Three persons including the driver has been arrested.

New Delhi/Ghaziabad: Police seized around two and a half kg gold from a truck and arrested three people, including the truck driver, on the National Highway-24 here late on Friday night.

According to sources, a police team was conducting a check drive on the highway under the leadership of magistrate Jitendra Sharma.

During the probe, it came to fore that the market value of the gold must be over ₹80 lakh, but the people transporting it did not have any official document in this regard.

The Income Tax Department has been informed and called on the spot. A probe is on in the matter.

SP (City) Shlok Kumar said that the IT department had been involved in the investigation of the matter.

After the Model Code of Conduct has been enforced, check drives have been launched by the police on all suspected routes as in the past, efforts have been made to influence the voters by offering them money, gold and liquor.
