New Delhi: The Supreme Court has refused to entertain the plea of sacked Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh who had sought a transfer of all cases against him to an independent agency outside Maharashtra. Justice Hemant Gupta hearing the arguments made by Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani on behalf of the petitioner, said "You are the part of a Maharashtra cadre. You served the State for 30 years. And now you don't trust the functioning of your own State? This is a shocking allegation! There is a saying, people in glass houses should not throw stones. You have experience in criminal law. Can there really be a blanket stay on FIRs lodged against you? We are not dealing with all FIRs. There are different Magistrates to deal with it."
To this, the senior advocate objected to the bench's usage of the term 'glass house' saying that it showed the latter's prejudicial mindset. In his plea, Param Bir Singh alleged that he was being threatened by the inquiry officer of false cases and that he withdraw his complaint made against the former Maharashtra HM Anil Deshmukh. This case is being investigated by the CBI following the orders of the Bombay High Court. Singh also added that all transcripts related to the calls made between him and the state government-appointed inquiry officer have been handed to the CBI.
