New Delhi: Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi held meetings with more than 10 leaders of the party in Punjab to understand their grievances with the state leadership. He is expected to meet the party's chief in the state Sunil Jakhar today.
Punjab Congress MLA Pargat Singh, who has been at loggerheads with Chief Minister Amrinder Singh, said the state leadership did not take any action to address the grievances of party members. "There are no groups within the party. These issues are pertaining to the state government which needs to be resolved. This can only be done when we start working on it. But till now, nothing has been done," Pargat Singh said. He even supported Navjot Singh Sidhu's recent statements against Chief Minister Singh saying that if these issues are not resolved then such statements will naturally come up.

Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu hinted that party high command is distressed over the recent remarks of Sidhu against the chief minister and his government. "When everyone is sharing their grievances in front of the AICC committee then why such statements are being made in media? I can only say that neither the party high command nor any other Congress worker will take it lightly. All are very distressed," Bittu said.
On the other hand, former MLA Ashwani Sekhri, who also met Rahul Gandhi, blamed the leadership of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Punjab Congress President Sunil Jakhar for the rift in the party.
On Tuesday, Captain Amarinder Singh held talks with a panel constituted to resolve the infighting. It has been said that Singh had given an explanation regarding the growing dissent within the party's state unit.
