Police break up plot against temple priest

Delhi police arrested Jan Mohammad Dar for plotting against the Mahant of Dasna temple Yati Narasimhanand Saraswati, according to reports.

New Delhi: A special cell of the Delhi Police has arrested an accused Jan Mohammad Dar alias Jahangir Sadhu, thereby foiling a plot to assassinate the Mahant of Dasna temple Yati Narasimhanand Saraswati, according to reports.

Based on a tip-off, the Special Cell, along with the intelligence agency, had raided and arrested Jan Mohammed, a resident of Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir, reports said.

A pistol, two magazines, 15 cartridges, saffron-colored robes, and some other items worn by sadhus have been recovered from him, according to reports.

During police interrogation, Jan Mohammad Dar had confessed that he planned to kill Mahant Narasimhanand Saraswati by disguising himself in saffron robes.

According to the police, the accused had also been arrested for pelting stones against the Indian Army in 2016, which broke out following the encounter involving Burhan Wani.

Dar told police that he had met a terrorist Abid in Jammu and Kashmir last year and was paid Rs 6,500 in cash and Rs 35,000 deposited to his bank A/c, reports said.

Dar was arrested at Shiva Hotel in Paharganj. He has studied till Class 12 and a carpenter by profession.
