Leaders pay tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on death anniversary

Former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi was killed by a suicide bomber 30 years ago at an election rally in Tamil Nadu. He became India's youngest prime minister at the age of 40 in October 1984 and stayed in office till December 1989.

Congress party's Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi paid tributes to their father former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi at the Veer Bhumi memorial to mark his death anniversary.

Gandhi was killed by a suicide bomber 30 years ago at an election rally in Tamil Nadu.

Rahul Gandhi tweeted 'truth, compassion and progress' along with Gandhi's picture.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also paid tributes to her father and wrote 'there is no power greater than love, there is no courage greater than mercy, there is no power greater than compassion and there is no guru greater than humility.'

Several leaders from Gandhi's Congress party and politicians from other political groups also paid their tributes.
