Farmers to take out 'Kisan Shaheedi Yatra'

The Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) has given a clarion call to hold a 'Kisan Shaheedi Yatra' as a mark of respect to the 351 farmers who sacrificed their lives in the protest. The march will begin from Kanyakumari and conclude in Delhi.

New Delhi: Farmers' organizations will hold a 'Kisan Shaheedi Yatra' across the country. The yatra is scheduled to begin from Kanyakumari and culminate in Delhi. During this journey, the farmers would collect the soil and ashes of martyred farmers from their residences. The decision was taken in a meeting called by farmers' organizations in a bid to take the movement to the next stage.

The agitation by farmers at the Singhu and Tikri borders in Delhi, against the three contentious farm laws, has been on for the last four and a half months. During this period, the farmers blocked roads and highways, held several protests, but none of them had an impact on the Centre.

Now, preparations are on by farmers to take the movement to a whole new level.

Bhopal Singh Chaudhary, Spokesperson of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) said that around 351 farmers sacrificed their lives in the protest to date, hence farmer organizations have decided to unite and take out the 'Kisan Shaheedi Yatra'. Whether the government gives them permission or not, they would still take out the rally, the spokesperson added.

Around 1500 farmers are expected to participate in the yatra.
