Dr Harsh Vardhan may land a new responsibility in BJP

Dr Harsh Vardhan's resignation from the Modi cabinet has sparked a barrage of speculations. It is said that he might be given a new responsibility in the BJP.

New Delhi: Prior to the cabinet expansion of the Modi government, the most shocking name among those ministers who had tendered their resignations was that of Chandni Chowk MP Dr Harsh Vardhan. Speculations are now rife, that he can be given a new responsibility in view of the current situation in Delhi State BJP and the upcoming municipal elections. Also, to a large extent, several possible changes will be seen in the state BJP very soon, sources say. It is known that Meenakshi Lekhi has been inducted into the Union Cabinet on Wednesday, following Dr Harsh Vardhan being dropped from the cabinet reshuffle.

At present, there has been an increase in factionalism in the Delhi State BJP under the chairmanship of Manoj Tiwari and then followed by Adesh Gupta. The presence of Union ministers and national level spokespersons speaking out on issues of Delhi, also tells the condition of the BJP. There are municipal elections next year and the Aam Aadmi Party has also turned active in the last several months. In such a situation, the Bharatiya Janata Party not only needs to strengthen the organization but also needs to explain to people at the ground level as to why they should be elected to the corporation.

There are also fears expressed about the possibility of many BJP councillors joining the Aam Aadmi Party, as they feel they may fall behind in the game of tickets. This has happened in the past as well and the state BJP has not been able to do anything special to stop it. There are also indications that many organizational changes would take place within the BJP. The civic body polls for the three corporations in Delhi (North, East and South) are slated to be held early in 2022.

Dr Harsh Vardhan is an experienced leader who understands Delhi and all its issues. He had also been appreciated for his work in the first term of the Modi government and during the first wave of Covid19. The BJP leader is also known for his clean image and as a leader who connects with people. Although the Covid19 second wave is believed to be the reason for his removal from the post of minister, it is being said that the party wants his leadership responsibility to handle Delhi.
