Indian Railways continues to bring relief to the nation amid the Covid crisis while overcoming various hurdles. Despite strong cyclonic winds due to the formation of Cyclone Yaas in the Bay of Bengal, Railways upscaled the operations of Oxygen Expresses in the Eastern States.

New Delhi:Ministry of Railways, on Tuesday, informed that about 680 Metric Tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen has been lifted from the states of Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand in the last 12 hours via 8 Oxygen Expresses.

As per the predictions of the Indian Meteorological Department, Cyclone Yaas will be intensifying into a 'Very Severe Cyclonic Storm' and will make landfall along the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal on May 26.

Amongst the Southern States, the delivery of LMO to Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Telangana by Indian Railways has crossed 1000 MT each.

So far, Oxygen Expresses have delivered more than 17239 MT of LMO to the Nation as 263 of these trains with 1042 tankers have completed their journey and brought relief to 14 States.

As per official data, 614 MT of Oxygen has been offloaded in Maharashtra, nearly 3649 MT in Uttar Pradesh, 633 MT in Madhya Pradesh, 4820 MT in Delhi, 1911 MT in Haryana, 98 MT in Rajasthan, 1421 MT in Karnataka, 320 MT in Uttarakhand, 1099 MT in Tamil Nadu, 886 MT in Andhra Pradesh, 225 MT in Punjab, 246 MT in Kerala, 1029 MT in Telangana and 80 MT in Assam.

To deliver oxygen to the states, Indian Railways is loading its trains from Oxygen plants at Hapa, Baroda, Mundra in the West and Rourkela, Durgapur, Tatanagar, Angul in the East and then delivering it to the States of Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Telangana, Punjab, Kerala, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

The average speed of these critical Freight trains is way above 55 in most cases over long distances. Railways are running these trains on high-priority Green Corridor, with a sense of urgency.

Technical stoppages have been reduced to 1 minute for crew changes over different sections. All this is done in a manner without affecting the speed of other freight operations, the Ministry of Railways informed.
