New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Tuesday filed an FIR over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's tractor rally to the Parliament, citing the move as a major security lapse. It is in this context that Rakesh Asthana has been appointed as the Delhi Police Commissioner, succeeding Balaji Srivastava, sources say. Police had launched a probe into the tractor march which was held on Monday, saying that tractors were not allowed entry into the premises and were trying to ascertain as to how the tractor was brought into Central Delhi despite security having been beefed up at the Parliament.
The Gandhi scion having driven a tractor to the Parliament said that he wanted to lend a voice to the poor farmers who were protesting against the farm laws. The Congress has been raising the issue in Parliament during its ongoing Monsoon Session. Other Opposition MPs also moved an Adjournment motion in both the Houses demanding a discussion over the matter. In connection with the case, some politicians were also detained and the tractor sans number plate was seized.
