Delhi Police constable saves lives of 70 sex workers

After a massive fire broke out in a shop near GB road in Delhi, as many as 70 sex workers were trapped in an adjacent building. On being informed about the incident, a police constable rushed to the spot, rescued them and asked them to sit in an open space till the fire is doused.

New Delhi: A Delhi Police constable saved lives of as many as 70 sex workers, who got trapped in their building on GB road here after a fire broke out in an adjacent shop on Thursday night.

Soon after the fire broke out in the crowded area with small lanes, the police constable reached there and started evacuating the sex workers. He helped them come out of the building and asked them to sit in an open space till the fire is doused.

Some of the sex workers said had he not come asking us to get out of the building, many of us would have died.

A sex worker told ETV Bharat that an explosion in the gas cylinder could have caused the fire.

Delhi Fire Service officials were reported saying that they received a call at 7.04 pm about the incident and soon after five fire engines were pressed into service to douse the flames.

It was a massive fire incident, they said, adding that the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
