Delhi reviews occupancy of ICU beds amid Covid surge

Delhi's health minister Satyendra Kumar Jain said the government is reviewing the availability of ICU beds and ventilators as the number of Covid patients surge in what appears to be a new wave of infections.

New Delhi: The number of Corona infected patients is witnessing a steady rise in Delhi. On Monday, around 1904 Covid positive cases were diagnosed. As the number of new patients increases, the occupancy of ICU beds in hospitals has also increased. In this scenario, the Delhi government has said it will review the availability of ICU beds in Covid hospitals.

Every day around 50 thousand cases are being registered in India. In Delhi, around 80,000 to 90,000 tests are being done on a daily basis.

Yesterday was Holi, so there have been fewer tests, due to which the number of new cases will be less today, the Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Kumar Jain said, adding that the situation in Delhi is being closely monitored. The Minister also appealed to the public to ensure the wearing of masks.

Responding to a question related to the new wave of Corona, Jain said that the trend in new cases in Delhi is the same as compared to the rest of the country. Earlier, less than 10 thousand cases were being reported across the country. Now cases have increased six times. We will have to wait for a week to call it a wave in Delhi, the minister said.

Jain said that the availability of beds will be reviewed and arrangements will be made on an immediate basis.

Currently, many ICU beds and ventilators are available in government hospitals and shortages were found in some private hospitals.
