Black flags raised in Punjab to back protesting farmers

Farmers in Punjab hoisted black flags atop their residences, backing the 'Black Day' call given by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) to mark six months of protests against three farm laws introduced by the federal government.

Punjab: Several farmers in Punjab hoisted black flags atop their residences, backing the 'Black Day' call given by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) to mark six months of the agitation at Delhi borders against the Central government's three new farm laws.

Punjab Kisan Union president Ruldu Singh Mansa said that they burnt effigies representing the government and waved black flags on behalf of the people of Punjab, adding that they would not stop the protests until the government complies with their demands.

Political parties have also extended their support to the protest call given by the farmers. Even leaders from the opposition- Shiromani Akali Dal hoisted black flags in Chandigarh's main office today under the leadership of former minister Sardar Bikram Singh Majithia. Several other leaders - Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, Parambans Singh Romana, Party spokesperson Charanjit Singh Brar, Nachhatar Singh Gill Hardeep Singh Buterla, Surjit Singh Raja and Parminder Singh Bohara were also present.

On behalf of the Congress, Panchayat Minister Trupt Rajinder Singh Bajwa expressed his dissent against the Modi government by waving a black flag at his residence in Kadiyan.

Demonstrations were also organized on behalf of the Aam Aadmi Party with black flags outside the Punjab Governor Bhawan in which AAP MLAs Kultar Singh Sandhwan and Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer were arrested by Chandigarh Police.
