Nurse and her lover held for black marketing Remdesivir

Remdesivir is considered a helpful drug in treating Covid patients, similar to Sanjeevani, the magical herb. Taking advantage of the scarcity, people have resorted to black marketing the drug. Now, a nurse treating patients in Bhopal who resorted to black marketing of Remdesivir, along with her boyfriend has been caught by the Bhopal Police.

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A case of black marketing of Remdesivir injections has come to light in a Covid-19 centre in the state capital. The accused Jhalkhan who works at the Covid centre along with his girlfriend Shalini Verma, a nurse, who also works in the same hospital was caught by police for black marketing the anti-viral drug. It was during interrogation that the accused confessed to the crime.

The nurse used to administer the patients' normal injections instead of Remdesivir and passed the anti-viral drug to Jhalkhan, who in turn used to sell it based on the demand in the market. In this manner, the couple sold Remdesivir injections and made Rs 20,000.

As the family members and relatives of patients were not allowed in Covid-19 wards, the couple took advantage of the situation and used to steal the Remdesivir vials.

According to police, the couple confessed to having sold the drug to even doctors working in the hospital in black. It was based on the online payment made by a doctor to the accused that the police had registered a case.

Low salaries paid by the hospital management and the greed to make extra money, led the couple to black-market the drug, police added.
