Mahindra, Hyundai announce new SUV launches

While Mahindra will launch its premium SUV XUV700 in the second quarter of the this fiscal, Hyundai will launch Alcazar later this month.

New Delhi: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd and Hyundai Motor India are all set to further strengthen their presence in the fast growing SUV segment with the launch of new models.

While Mahindra will launch its premium SUV XUV700 in the second quarter of the this fiscal, Hyundai will launch Alcazar later this month.

Mahindra’s new model has been built on the W601 platform. It will be manufactured at the company's manufacturing facility at Chakan in Maharashtra, M&M said in a statement.

The XUV700 is an upgraded version of previously launched XUV300 and XUV500.

"The XUV700, one of the most awaited offerings from Mahindra, is sure to hit the sweet spot with customers. Built on the new W601 platform, XUV700 marks the beginning of the next generation of sophisticated and authentic Mahindra SUVs...," M&M Ltd CEO – Automotive Division Veejay Nakra said.

It will come with "world class safety features, reaffirming Mahindra's commitment towards safety", the company said.

The upcoming model will offer both diesel and petrol engines in manual and automatic transmissions, along with optional All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) capabilities, it added.

Alcazar is to be positioned between Creta and Tucson

Alcazar, the new premium SUV would come with both petrol and diesel powertrains mated with six speed manual and automatic transmissions.

The petrol trims would be powered by 2 litre BSVI engine which churns out 159 PS of power while the diesel variants would be offered with 1.5 litre BSVI powertrain which generates a power of 115 PS.

The Alcazar, which is to be positioned between Creta and Tucson, would feature six and seven seat configurations.

The new SUV comes with drive mode selection feature with different steering effort mapping for Eco, City and Sport modes, the company said in a statement.
