Youth no longer job seeker, but creator of jobs: Finance Minister

While presenting the Union Budget 2020, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman suggested that the measures undertaken by the government would create employment, stating that today's youth is not a job seeker, but a job creator.

New Delhi:Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said that huge employment opportunities exist for India's youth in construction, operation, and maintenance of infrastructure.

"Growth of tourism directly relates to growth in employment," said Sitharaman.

While Sitharaman did not talk about the issue of unemployment directly, she suggested that the measures undertaken in the present Budget would create jobs.

"We recognise the knowledge, skills and risk-takingcapabilities of our youth. He is no longer the job seeker. He is creator of jobs. Now we wish to create more opportunities and remove road-blocks from his path," she said.

What's special for the Employment sector in this budget:

- Finance Minister instructed the state government to develop a road map for certain identified destinations and formulate a financial plan against which specified grants will be made available to the state from the Centre in 2020-21.

- The government intends to introduce major reforms in recruitment to non-gazetted posts in government and public sector banks. It proposed to set up a national recruitment agency as a specialised common test for recruitment to the non-gazetted post.

- Centre to set up an investment clearance cell that will provide end to end facilitation and support, including pre-investment advisory, information related to land banks and facilitate clearances at the Centre and state level.
