New Delhi: The unemployment rate in the national capital has reached more than 45 per cent, says a report by a leading economic think tank.
The data released by the Mumbai-based Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) pointed out that the unemployment rate has jumped from 27.3 per cent in April 2021 to a whopping 45.6 per cent last month.
Notably, this is the fourth month in a row that the unemployment rate in the national capital has witnessed an upward trend.
From 8.0 per cent last February, the unemployment rate has steadily increased to 27.3 per cent in April.
According to the data, Delhi has the highest unemployment rate in the country followed by Haryana (29.1 per cent), Tamil Nadu (28.0 per cent) and Rajasthan (27.6 per cent).

During the same period, Assam had the lowest unemployment rate in the country at 0.1 per cent. Gujarat had a 2.3 per cent unemployment rate, while Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh registered a 5.3 per cent unemployment rate in May.
Overall, India registered an 11.90 per cent unemployment rate in May. In urban areas the rate was 14.73 per cent, while in rural areas it was 10.63 per cent.
From a high of 9.06 per cent last December, the unemployment rate has gradually decreased to 6.50 per cent in March before reaching the 8 per cent mark in April.
According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), the unemployment rate is the number of unemployed persons as a percentage of the total number of persons in the labour force.
