Solar power plant inaugurated at airport in Tiruchy

The solar panels would generate one MW and more power would be generated once the airport was expanded, Tiruchy airport director Gunasekaran said at the inaugural of the plant.

Tiruchirappalli: Solar power would light up the international airport here and meet 25 per cent of its power needs as Rs 4.64-crore solar plant was inaugurated on its premises on Saturday.

The solar panels would generate one MW and more power would be generated once the airport was expanded, said its director Gunasekaran at the inaugural of the plant.

The installation cost of the plant would be recovered in three years and nine months, he said, adding that the project was implemented under the national solar mission.

The plant would generate 15.4 lakh units a year and would light the airport premises throughout the day, while the regular power supply would be used at night.
