Buget 2020: Agriculture critical in revival of economy, says ICFA chief

It's time the Union government should focus on working on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's promise of doubling the exports in the agriculture sector, says Dr MJ Khan, Chairman of the Indian Chamber of Food and Agriculture (ICFA) in an exclusive interaction with ETV Bharat.

New Delhi:The second budget of the second term of the Modi government will be presented on 1st February. ETV Bharat interacted with Dr MJ Khan, Chairman of the Indian Chamber of Food and Agriculture (ICFA), to discuss what the agriculture sector expects from this budget and what are the prospects for farming.

Khan said that Prime Minister Modi had talked about doubling the exports in the agriculture sector to increase the income of farmers, which needs to be worked on and he hopes that in the coming budget there will be some provisions on this aspect.

The development of agriculture sector in India is directly related to the economic development of the country, so in view of the country's economy, new schemes need to be brought in the agriculture sector and there may be changes on some policy things in the coming budget, he added.

Besides, Khan said that there should be provisions in the upcoming budget for infrastructure development as well.

If the government wants to achieve the goal of doubling farmers' income by 2022, then there is a need to promote open trade. The farmer should have an open exemption that he can buy and sell from anywhere. With this, the FPO scheme needs to be linked to more business, he added.

Overall, it is expected that in the coming budget, instead of any populist scheme, more attention will be given to these technical things and provisions will be made for the same, he said.
