Hyderabad: In order to ease the process of transferring vehicle ownership after the death of the owner, the government may soon let people nominate a person who will inherit their four- or two-wheelers at the time of purchase of the vehicle itself.
Usually, vehicle ownership is passed on to the first legal heir of the deceased person or to the rightful owner as named in the will, if any. However, the process is extremely cumbersome and non-uniform across the country and involves a lot of paperwork.
Now, the ministry of road transport and highways has invited suggestions and comments from the public and all stakeholders on the proposed amendment to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 to facilitate the owner of the vehicle for nominating a person at the time of registration of the vehicles.
At the time of nomination, the vehicle owner will also need to submit the nominee’s proof of identification.
