Amid backlash, Railways withdraws proposed massage services in trains

Western Railway has decided to withdraw the proposal of massage on trains.

Mumbai: Western Railway has decided to withdraw the proposal of providing Head, Neck and Foot massages to the passengers of trains originating from Indore.

Railways withdraws proposed massage services in trains

Proposal for the introduction of head and/or foot massage services to be provided in the trains originating from Indore was initiated by Ratlam Division of Western Railways.

As soon as this proposal came to the notice of higher authorities of Western Railways, it has been decided to withdraw this proposal.

However, other suggestions regarding the necessary passenger amenities have also been expressed by various representatives. Western Railways is committed to providing the comfortable, secured and safe service to all the passengers.

As per the proposal, some 39 trains originating from Indore were to offer head and foot massage services to passengers on board. The service would have been provided for Rs 100 per passenger.

Rajesh Dutt Bajpai, Director Media of the Railway Ministry said, "The Ratlam Division has issued an order on June 7 for provision of head and foot massage facilities to passengers on 39 trains originating from the Indore railway station under the New, Innovative Non-Fare Revenue Ideas Scheme (NINFRIS) policy."

The trains on which the service was to be provided include Malwa Express, Indore-Lingampalli Humsafar Express, Avantika Express, Indore-Veraval Mahamana Express, Shipra Express, Narmada Express, Ahilya Nagari Express, Panchvally Express, Indore-Pune Express.
