Watch: People risk lives crossing river in Rudraprayag

The situation in Haat Village in Uttrakhand's Rudraprayag is so grim that minor disbalance can cost a person's life. The residents are forced to risk their lives every day while crossing the Mandakini river on foot after the temporary pedestrian bridge was swept away in the floods last year. Adding to their woes, the ropeway provided to villagers for the commute is also lying defunct.

Rudraprayag: The residents of Haat village in Uttrakhand's Rudraprayag are forced to risk their lives every day while crossing the Mandakini river after the temporary pedestrian bridge was swept away in the floods last year. Even young students have to cross the river on foot to reach their schools.

The situation is so grim that minor disbalance can cost a person's life as the river in the region flows at its full speed. Adding to their woes, the ropeway provided to villagers for the commute is also lying defunct.

This is the situation when the region is yet to welcome the monsoon.

There is a road connecting the village to nearby towns, but the transport facility on the route is not good. So, the villagers are risking their lives by crossing the river on foot.

According to village head Sunita Devi, the residents had been demanding for the construction of a bridge for a long time now. The proposal has also been approved, but still the construction work has not begun, she added.
