- Speaking exclusively to ETV Bharat, senior officer and scientist 'F' of IMD, Dr. Sathi Devi said explained that the very severe cyclonic storm Vayu forming over east central Arabian Sea had moved north to north-west wards on the past six hours. The wind speed will be 135-145 kmph gusting to 160 kmph from the afternoon of 13th of June.

Gujarat gears up for Cyclone Vayu
Hyderabad:Over 2.7 lakh people in 500 coastal villages were evacuated to safer locations, as the Gujarat government gears up for 'very severe' cyclonic storm Vayu, which is expected to make landfall on Thursday afternoon.
Thunderstorm and lightning accompanied by gusty winds are likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of North Gujarat region, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) informed.
Columns of Army, NDRF personnel, Air Force helicopters and 300 marine commandoes were deployed for rescue and relief operations, while flight operations from five airports in Porbandar, Diu, Bhavnagar, Keshod and Kandla were suspended.
Around 2.75 lakh people were shifted and more than 500 villages have been evacuated from the coastal regions in view of the Cyclone Vayu approaching the Gujarat Coast, the government said.
"It is very likely to move nearly northwards and cross Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Mahuva around Veraval and Diu region as a very severe cyclonic storm with wind speed 140-150 kmph gusting to 165 kmph around the morning of 13 June 2019," the IMD said in a statement.
After taking stock of the current weather condition, the IMD has issued a red alert in the wake of the cyclonic storm and predicted heavy downpour at several areas in Gujarat.
