Congress hits out at BJP for denying former Assam CM to address media

Hitting out at BJP government for denying permission to three times Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to hold a press conference at Delhi's Assam House, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora on Friday termed it as "undeclared emergency."

New Delhi:A day after three times Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi was denied permission to address a press conference at Delhi's Assam House, the Congress on Friday termed it as "undeclared emergency."

"This is an undeclared emergency. Freedom of speech, freedom of press have been curtailed in India...We strongly oppose such move," said Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora.

Condemning the move, Bora said, "He had been staying in his room for the last two days. When some media people approached him for his interview, the resident commissioner of the Assam House did not give the permission...how can a resident commissioner do like this!"

He said that it's a fundamental right to express views whether it is for the government or against the government.

A section of media on Thursday approached former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for an interview on June 27, but the authority did not give permission for the same.

Later, Gogoi addressed the media on the street near Assam House.
