Ceasefire pact with Nagaland insurgent groups extended for a year

The ceasefire agreement between the central government and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland has been extended for one more year with effect from 28th April 2019 till 27th April 2020.

New Delhi: The Centre has extended the ceasefire agreement with two insurgent groups in Nagaland for one more year with effect from 28 April 2019.

The ceasefire agreement is between the central government and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Reformation) and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Neokpao- Khitovi).

"It was decided to extend the Suspension of Operation with NSCN/NK & NSCN/R for a further period of one year with effect from 28th April 2019 i.e., till 27th April 2020," said a home ministry statement.

The agreement was signed on April 15, 2019 by Satyendra Garg, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs on behalf of Government of India and Jack Jimomi, Supervisor, GPRN/NSCN on behalf of NSCN/NK and by Dr. Amento Chishi, Supervisor and Toshi Longkumer, Secretary on behalf of NSCN/R.

National Socialist Council of Nagaland/K-Khango has also re-entered into a fresh Ceasefire Agreement with the central government with effect from April 15, 2019 for a period of one year, it said.

The NSCN (Isak-Muivah) and the NSCN (Khaplang) are among other groups that operate in Nagaland.

While the NSCN (I-M) has entered into a ceasefire agreement in 1997 and has been maintaining it since then, the pact with NSCN-K has been broken after the group attacked a military convoy in Manipur in June 2015, killing 18 soldiers.
