This Assam school boasts of 'light weight' school bags!

At a time, when MHRD and Assam government have ordered all the schools to reduce the weight of school bags, Shiksha Rectrix school of Dhemaji district in Assam has arranged two sets of books for its students so that they don't need to carry an extra burden every day. The state government has set May 30 as the deadline to abide by the Madras High Court's guidelines on school bags.

Dhemaji: Tiny tots burdened with bulky school bags is a heart-rending sight! The crushing weight of books and other materials, which are sometimes beyond their study grade, have been exerting severe stress on the delicate back of the children.

In the majority of instances, bags are often heavier than the weight of the child and there is no denying that it is hazardous for their health.

Last year in November, in line with the Madras High Court's guidelines, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) instructed all states and union territories to “formulate guidelines” regulating the weight of schoolbags.

Following the instructions, a school in Upper Assam's Dhemaji district has taken a commendable initiative to reduce the load on school students.

The Shiksha Rectrix School of the town has arranged two sets of books for its students so that they do not need to carry the extra burden every day. The students from class 1-5 should carry school bags weighing 2.5 kgs, including lunch box and water bottle.

The school has taken this initiative to help its students grow, both mentally and physically.
Also, the school has been appealing to other schools and parents to follow the guidelines of the government, as mental happiness is important for the growth of the child.
