Assam: Here's how to check names in Final NRC

The final list of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) will be published on August 31. The entire process of updating NRC is under the direct monitoring of the Apex Court and is being carried out by the Registrar General of India.

Guwahati:In accordance with the Supreme Court's directions, the final list of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is scheduled to be published on August 31.

The NRC update is the result of agitation in the state that pivoted on the demand to drive out people who had entered Assam illegally.

Citizens in the state can check their names in the Final NRC as follows:

1. From September 7, 2019, the status of all NRC applicants will be available online and can be seen by typing out the ARN (Application Reference Number).

2. The online facility will be available from August 31, which will give the result of any change in status from Complete Draft NRC for claimants/ Objectees/ any member included in Draft but were called for any hearing held on or after 5 July 2019.

3. People who submitted claims as they were not included in Complete Draft list (published on 30th July 2018) or in Additional Draft Exclusions list (published on 26th June 2019) or had any objection filed against their inclusion, can see their status of inclusion in Supplementary Inclusions List. Supplementary Inclusions List will be available with designated NSK/Office of Circle Officers /Office of Deputy Commissioners and will also be available on NRC website as “Supplementary Inclusions /Exclusions Lists (Final NRC) status”.

4. People who were included in Complete Draft or in Additional Draft Exclusions List but were called for hearings held from July 5, 2019, onwards can also check for their status as mentioned above.

5. People who were included in Complete Draft or in Additional Draft Exclusions List but were not called for any hearings held from July 5, 2019, onwards need not worry about their inclusion status, as they continue to be included in the Final NRC.

For the benefit of those whose names do not appear in the final NRC, appeals can be made as per Section 8 of Schedule to the Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and Issue of National Identity Cards) Rules, 2003.

The Centre has extended the time limit for filing of appeals from 60 days to 120 days and necessary amendment in this regard has been made in the Foreigners' (Tribunals) Amendment Order, 2019.

The process of updating NRC is being carried out by the Registrar General of India and the entire process is under the direct monitoring of the Supreme Court.
