Tiger cub dies at Nandankanan Zoo

Their mother had abandoned the three cubs shortly after their birth. The condition of the other two cubs, one male and another female, is getting better, said Nandankanan Zoo authority.

Bhubaneswar: One of the three cubs born on March 11 to white tigress Rupa at Nandankanan Zoological Park died on Monday morning, said the zoo authorities. Rupa had given birth to a normal female cub and two white male cubs ten days ago. The tigress abandoned the cubs soon after giving birth, forcing the staff to start hand-rearing.

Zoo deputy director Sanjeet Kumar said that, unfortunately, one of the white male cubs died on Sunday evening following a brief illness. “We started treating the cubs as per the advice of veterinary doctors but we could not save the cub," he said. Authorities are planning to conduct post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of the cub's death. The remaining two cubs are in good health and are taking supplementary milk.
