VHP protests against anti-Hindu violence in Bangladesh

The Vishva Hindu Parishad today organised a protest in New Delhi against attacks on Hindu community and forceful religious conversions in Bangladesh. They even handed over a memorandum for Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, demanding that she put an end to anti-Hindu violence in her country.

New Delhi: The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Friday held a protest against the atrocities on the minority Hindu community in neighbouring Bangladesh.

The international affairs department of the VHP, along with the Global Bengali Hindu coalition today organised the protest in the national capital.

The two organisations also handed over a memorandum for Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the Bangladeshi High Commission in New Delhi.

In the memorandum, concerns were raised over the incidents of violence in Bangladesh after the comments made by French Prime Minister Emmanuel Macaron in the aftermath of the beheading of a teacher.

The memorandum said that the population of Hindus in Bangladesh fell from 19.7 per cent in 1971 to less than ten per cent at present.

Expressing concerns over reports that Hindu homes were burned down in Comilla and Muradnagar, the two organisations also appealed to the Bangladeshi Prime Minister to put an end to anti-Hindu violence.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Prashant Hartalkar, the secretary for the VHP's international affairs, said that atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh has now become a daily affair, and hence, to safeguard the human rights of the Hindu community in the neighbouring nation, the VHP was joining the protests with the Bangladesh Hindu Mahasangh.

He added that similar protests were being carried out in several cities across the globe.

The VHP leader stressed that the Hindu community in Bangladesh was suffering through abductions, forced conversions, rapes, and illegal occupation of their lands.

Meanwhile, the Global Bengali Hindu Coalition has also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sign the memorandum.
