New Delhi:Residents of Khidki Extension in Malviya Nagar took out a protest against a court order which has directed the demolition of a temple owned by the Valmiki Samaj in the area.

According to local people, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) filed the case after an individual filed a complaint citing the illegal construction of the temple.

Members of the Valmiki Samaj, however, claimed that MCD filed the case on basis of flawed accusations raised by the complainant.

Mansingh, former chairman of Delhi Safai Karamcharis Commission, who spoke to the media representing the protestors said the temple was built 50 years ago.

"This is a temple of Lord Valmiki. There are many temples in Delhi that are built illegally. But they are not being demolished, only our temple is being targeted," he said.

"Even if we assume that the temple has been built illegally, then why no action is taken against other temples that are built against rules. Until we get an answer, we will stand here and we will give a befitting reply to anyone who hits us," he added.

Hundreds of people from the Valmiki community, mostly women, gathered at the temple premises on Friday after the court verdict.
