Dehradun: A dreaded criminal, who has been absconding for 13 years after committing a heinous crime in Ramnagar, Uttarakhand, has finally been arrested by a Special Task Force (STF) team in Panipat, Haryana.
Mahendra Singh, who carried a reward of Rs 10,000 on his head, had been taking shelter in states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi for a long time dodging the police.
Mahendra Singh, a dreaded criminal who was absconding for 13 years, has been nabbed an Uttarakhand STF team in Haryana. After receiving information about his whereabouts during the course of a special arrest campaign in Uttarakhand for criminals carrying rewards on their head, a 10-member STF team led by Sub-Inspector Yadvendra Bajwa and Sub-Inspector Gururani laid siege to an area in Yamunanagar, Haryana, late Tuesday night. The team laid a trap in the paddy and sugarcane fields on the banks of river Yamuna in Panipat and arrested Mahendra Singh. After interrogating the accused, the STF team took him on transit remand from a local court in Haryana and bringing him to Dehradun.

It may be mentioned that a special campaign is being run in Uttarakhand since August 1 to nab criminals carrying rewards on their heads. Police in all 13 districts of the state, especially the STF, are engaged on a war footing to nab these notorious criminals. While on the one hand more than a dozen such criminals have been arrested in various districts of the state, on the other, teams have been sent by the STF to other states in the country to nab those carrying rewards of Rs 10,000 or more on their heads. Since August 1, five notorious criminals have been arrested by the STF and sent behind bars.
