New Delhi: Ending America's longest war, the US military forces completed their withdrawal from Afghanistan on Monday midnight. Amid the hasty withdrawal, many reports of families, innocent Afghans and Americans being left behind have come to the forefront.
What came as a shocking development is that the U.S. military forces left behind dozens of service dogs in Afghanistan. According to reports, non-profit organisation Veteran sheepdogs of America are now working to evacuate the abandoned dogs.
The last five US military transport aircraft left Afghanistan on Monday but left behind around 200 American citizens and thousands of distressed Afghans who could not manage to get out.
Meanwhile, US President Biden after the completion of the withdrawal said, "The past 17 days have seen our troops execute the largest airlift in US history, evacuating over 120,000 US citizens, citizens of our allies, and Afghan allies of the United States. They have done it with unmatched courage, professionalism, and resolve. Now, our 20-year military presence in Afghanistan has ended."
Biden, however, said he has asked the Secretary of State to lead the continued coordination with the international partners to ensure safe passage for many Americans, Afghan partners, and foreign nationals who want to leave Afghanistan.
