Taking a dig at the government, Priyanka Gandhi Tweeted: "When the UP government was treating farmers like criminals for burning stubble, at that time the Congress party had asked how can farmer's paddy – legal and stubble – be illegal?"

This move by the Chief Minister is being seen as the government's efforts to make farmers happy in view of the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh to be held next year. On Wednesday, UP Additional Chief Secretary Avnish Kumar Awasthi issued an order in this regard to the Commissioner of Police, all DMs and SSPs.

The order stated that the state government is committed to the uplift of farmers. The government has ensured that the farmers will continue to contribute significantly to the economy of the state without any problem or fear.

Priyanka also said that the government, which pretends to withdraw the cases ahead of elections, should tell on whose orders the farmers were humiliated.
