Minister to be conferred with Vatayan award

Dehradun: Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ will be conferred with the Vatayan Lifetime Achievement Award at a virtual ceremony on Saturday.

This award will be another in the list of many other national and international awards and honours conferred to the Minister for writing, poetry and other literary works. Shri Pokhriyal has earlier received several awards in the field of literature and administration including Sahitya Bharati Award by the then Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Sahitya Gaurav Samman by Former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Bharat Gaurav Samman, Good Governance Award by Dubai Government, outstanding Achievement Award by Global Organization of Person of Indian Origin by Mauritius, awarded in Ukraine in the area of environmental protection, among others. Shri Nishank is also honoured with "Himal Gaurav Samman" by Nepal.

Writers, poets, journalists, thinkers and academicians from all over the world will be present online in this ceremony organized by global Hindi family and Vatayan. People of the literary circle are very happy over the announcement of this year's prestigious International Extraordinary Achievement Award to the HRD minister.

The recipient of the Frederic Pincode UK Award-2014, Vatayan, was formed in the year 2003 by Dr Satendra Srivastava, a linguistics reader at Cambridge University. The organization has so far awarded reputed writers and lyricists of India such as Javed Akhtar, Nida Fazli, Prasoon Joshi, Pushpita Awasthi, Madhu Chaturvedi and Lakshmi Shankar Vajpayee.

Earlier, Dr Nishank has been honoured for his outstanding achievements in the field of splendid literature creation, 'Sparsh Ganga', a dedicated campaign for Jeevadayini Ganga, Himalayas and environmental protection and promotion. His books have been honoured and released by three Presidents of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan. In the past, the Yoga Foundation of Ukraine has honoured Nishank for the protection of the Ganga and the environment.

Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' was awarded the 'Gopio International Award' for his literary achievements by the Global Organization of Indian Origin (Gopio), an international organization of NRI industrialists at India House in Paris. Nishank has been awarded the "Gopio International Extraordinary Achievement Award" in Mauritius in the year 2010 by Gopio for his outstanding literary work.

In Poland's capital, Warsaw, Nishank was honoured with the BG Group Environment Conservation Award for his outstanding work in conservation of the Himalayas and the Ganges. Nishank received this honour from BG Group chairman Saiket Bashu, Indian Ambassador to Poland Sevang Namgyal and Dr Ravi Ranjan, President of Warsaw University (Polish Academy of Science) and noted writer and international affairs expert Sanjay Bhutani.

Nishank was also honoured for protecting the environment and the Ganga in Vienna, the capital of Austria. Dr Nishank was honoured by Manik Sharma, representing India at the United Nations, Dr Ansari of the World Energy Institute and Ahuja, President of Hindu Temple Committee, Vienna. On this occasion, the English translation of Nishank's famous book 'World Heritage Ganga' was also released.

Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank was also awarded the 'NRI Appreciation Award' for his outstanding contribution in the field of environment and literature in Brussels, the capital of Belgium. The honour was conferred by Tarsem Singh Shergill, President of NRI Sabha and Dhirendra Garbyal, Senior Officer of Indian Embassy and Vijay Malik, International President of India World Foundation.

Previously, Nishank was honoured by more than a dozen countries of the world including Sri Lanka, Mauritius, South Africa, Germany, Japan, Dubai, Indonesia, Thailand, Uganda and Nepal for his literary works and work done for the protection of Himalayas and environment.

More than 20 research projects have been done in many universities on Nishank's literature and many more are underway. His literature is being taught in many universities in the country and abroad. So far, more than 6 dozen books of Nishank have been published by major publishers of the country in almost all genres of Hindi including poetry, story, novel, memoir, diary, travelogue, culture, tourism and children's literature.

Dr Nishank's many books have been translated into many foreign and Indian languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Sanskrit, Kannada, Gujarati, Marathi, Bhojpuri, Garhwal, Punjabi, Oriya besides English, Nepali, French, Dutch, Spanish, Creole etc. Dr Nishank's patriotic songs are broadcast on many AIR and Doordarshan stations and sung as prayers in many schools of the country.
