Twice failed Civil service aspirant emerges winner in TN local body polls

IAS officer Umasankar's sister Umadevi contested in Tirunelveli local body elections and won the post of Union councillor securing 2,219 votes.

Tirunelveli:IAS officer Umasankar's sister Umadevi contested in Tirunelveli local body elections and won the post of Union councillor securing 2,219 votes. In nine districts of Tamil Nadu, local body elections were held between October 6 and 9. The counting for the two-phased elections happened on October 12.

Umadevi, an independent candidate, contested for the post of Union councillor in Manoor Union ward number 5. DMK, BJP, ADMK parties also contested in the election. When the election results were announced, Umadevi secured 2,219 votes and won the election. She defeated DMK candidate Murugeshwari by 1000 votes. Umadevi who attempted civil service examination twice now has become a union councillor. Her own brother Umasankar, a 2011 badge IAS officer, is currently working as a Customs officer(Commissioner)in Kolkata.
