Pakistan girls who strayed into India repatriated

Two Pakistani girls who strayed into Indian side on Sunday were handed over to Pakistan authorities of PoK on Monday. The girls, Laiba Zubair and Sana Zubair, were detained after they crossed to the Indian side along the Line of Control in Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir and were handed over to local police on Sunday morning.

Srinagar: Two Pakistani minor girls, who had crossed over to the Indian side along the Line of Control in Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir, were repatriated on Monday by the authorities. Both the girls were handed over to the authorities from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) at Chakan Da Bagh crossing point.

The two sisters - Laiba Zubair (17) and Sana Zubair (13) - were detained by the security forces on Sunday morning after they crossed over to the Indian side in Mendhar area of Poonch. The two were later handed over to the local police.

The two girls are residents of village Abbasspur, Tehsil Forward Kahuta in PoK. The girls were given sweets and gifts by the Indian authorities as a goodwill gesture while they were handed over to Pakistan authorities.

Incidents like these are common on both sides of the LoC given the frequent ceasefire violation incidents in Poonch sector and other areas. Citizens living close to the LoC often stray inadvertently into India or Pakistan and they are repatriated by the respective officials after investigation.

Security forces have intensified patrolling along the LoC after unearthing of a tunnel and infiltration bids this year.
