Kupwara: 2 LeT operatives killed in gunfight with security forces

The Pakistani terrorist had a code name 'Tufail', the other was Ishtiaq Lone from Tral who had joined the militant organization recently.

Kupwara:Two militants of terrorist outfit LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba) were killed during a gunfight with security forces on Tuesday in Kundi Tarchh area of Kashmir's Kupwara district. A tweet by Kashmir Zone Police has identified one among the deceased as Tufail, a 'Pakistani terrorist'. The incident occurred during a search operation by the forces when the militants suddenly opened fire.

"#KupwaraEncounterUpdate: Two #terrorists of proscribed #terror outfit LeT including one #Pakistani terrorist namely Tufail killed. Search still going on: IGP Kashmir" the tweet read. The search operation was prompted by prior inputs to the police regarding a militant hideout in the area. Police and CRPF cordoned off the area, after which the gunfight began. The IGP also said that two AK-56 rifles had been found in the area.

A clip of the area emerged soon after the exchange of firepower, displaying armed security personnel and vehicles at the spot. The incident occurred soon after three magnetic IEDs were discovered after shooting down a drone in Kantowala-Dayaran area in Jammu's Akhnoor district late on Monday night. In a series of anti-terror operations in Kashmir over the last few months, several terrorists and commanders have been eliminated. Also on Monday, another Pakistani LeT operative was killed in Panipora forest area in North Kashmir's Sopore.
