Agartala:Tripura West collector ordered the closure of outpatient department (OPD) services of Tripura Medical College & Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital for 72 hours due to a sudden rise of Covid-19 cases among staff' of the medical college.
Sources in the Tripura health and family welfare department said that a total of 26 people were tested positive for the infection. As per COVID media reports circulated by the department, a total of 581 samples were send for testing out of which nine samples were found to be positive.
However, West Tripura district magistrate Sailesh Kumar Yadav later confirmed that the total number of active COVID-19 cases stands at 26.
Tripura Medical College OPD services shut after COVID surge According to sources, the newly infected persons included four junior resident doctors, some health staff and a pregnant woman admitted at the Tripura Medical College and DR BRAM hospital.

West Tripura District Magistrate Sailash Kumar ordered to shut down the OPD services after reports of surging COVID cases in the last two days emerged.
“Whereas, there has been a sudden rise in the number of cases of Covid 19 positive cases in the staff of Tripura medical college & Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Teaching hospital, Hapania, Tripura within two days”, the order added and ordered that routine OPD services would be stopped.
According to sources, the health department has already started the contact tracing process to identify the close contacts of the infected persons. If sources are to be believed, the infection spread from a marriage ceremony where safety protocols have been not adhered to.
Meanwhile, it is also worthy to be mentioned here that initally Covid 19 cases were less but TMC hospital emerged as a new hotspot of the infection.
