Tripura HC issues notice to govt over September 8 violence

The notice was issued to the government after the first hearing of Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Left leader Haripada Das citing police inaction. The court sought the government's reply by October 4.

Agartala:A division bench of the High Court of Tripura comprising chief justice AA Kureshi and Justice SG Chattopadhyay on Monday issued notice to the state government seeking its reply over the incidents of violence, arson and vandalism in newspaper offices and CPI(M) party offices on September 8, this year.

The notice was issued after the first hearing of Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Left leader Haripada Das citing police inaction, said advocate Rajasree Purakayastha, who is representing the petitioner in this case. The court sought the government's reply by October 4.

"On September 8, a series of violent incidents took place across the state and party offices came under attack. Police did not take any active interest in the case. With the prayer of a special investigation team chaired by a retired High Court judge, the petitioner moved the High Court," she said.

The court sought the government's reply by October 4. However, none of the government advocates was available to respond in the matter.
