Tripura to promote school students without exams

Agartala:The government of Tripura has decided to promote school students of certain classes to the next level without exams. The special relaxation was approved at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, cabinet spokesman Ratan Lal Nath said.

Briefing the media, Education minister Ratan Lal Nath said, the students of Class I, II, III, IV, VI and VII would be promoted to the next level without examinations.

“After reopening of schools, an evaluation test will be done. There will be no passing marks or other obligations to be cleared,” he said, adding that distribution of school books had already started.

“As central guidelines on no-detention policy are applicable in case of the students of Class- V and VIII, it will be discussed in the cabinet. Besides, the decision on the examinations of Class- IX and XI will be taken in consultation with the Tripura Board of Secondary Education,” Nath told the media.

The summer vacation for the school students has been extended till June 7 considering the COVID-19 situation, Nath said.

In another major decision that came up on Tuesday, the cabinet of ministers has also decided to declare twenty schools of the state as Specified Category Schools.

The students from any part of the state would have the opportunity to study in the schools, Nath told the media. These schools will follow the CBSE curriculum.

The schools would have subject teachers for every subject, laboratories, libraries and a sports ground. Every class would have a maximum of 40 students. In case of appointment of headmaster for these schools, the state government would conduct a special selection test, Nath added.
