1. Rajinikanth to announce politcal party on December 31

Superstar Rajinikanth on Thursday announced that he will make his entry into the political fray in January 2021. The announcement for the same will be made on December 31, 2020.

2. JP Nadda to visit Uttar Pradesh from Dec 25 to 28

BJP president J.P. Nadda will be visiting Uttar Pradesh from December 25-28 and hold talks with party leaders on strengthening the party's organizational structure in the run-up to the Panchayat elections next year and the Assembly elections in 2022. Nadda will be in Lucknow on December 25 and 26 while his itinerary for the next two days is yet to be decided.

3. China moon probe prepares to send rock samples

China said on Thursday its latest lunar probe has finished taking samples of the moon’s surface and sealed them within the spacecraft for return to Earth, the first time such a mission has been attempted by any country in more than 40 years. The Chang’e 5 touched down Tuesday on the Sea of Storms on the moon’s near side, on a mission to return lunar rocks to Earth for the first time since 1976.

4. Farmers protest hits revenues of Haryana roadways

Haryana roadways in Faridabad are losing revenue of 4 lakhs every day so far on account of farmers’ protest. The ongoing agitation of farmers against the Central farm bills has adversely affected the operations of Haryana Roadways. Roadways are already running at a loss of crores due to Covid-19 induced lockdown. If the bus service does not come back on track, then the loss of Haryana Roadways is expected to increase.

5. Ex-Punjab police chief gets anticipatory bail

The Supreme Court on Thursday granted anticipatory bail to former Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini in the 1991 case of alleged murder of a junior engineer.A bench of justices Ashok Bhushan, R Subhash Reddy and M R Shah allowed the appeal of Saini against the order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court declining him the pre-arrest bail in the 29-year-old case.

6.Uttar Pradesh boy found dead after 20-hour rescue operation from borewell

The four-year-old boy, who had fallen into a borewell in the Budhaura village, was brought out dead on Thursday morning. The boy had fallen into the borewell on Wednesday. He was brought out of the borewell, after a 20-hour operation, but the doctors at the spot pronounced him dead. A massive rescue operation had been launched to rescue the boy from the open 30-foot borewell.

7. Visually challenged people attempt world record

As many as 50 visually challenged persons from Chennai on Wednesday attempted the UNICO Book Of World Records by weaving 50 chairs in six hours, ahead of International Day of Disabled Persons on Thursday. UNICO Charitable Trust and Indian Blind Welfare Trust jointly organised the world record.

8. Soldier commits suicide in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district

An army man shot himself with his service rifle on Thursday in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district. Police sources said soldier Chandra Patil of 62 headquarters shot himself with his service rifle in the Zawoora village of Shopian district. Police said an FIR has been lodged in this incident. Investigations have started to ascertain the reason as to why the soldier took the extreme step.

9. ED officials raid homes of PFI leaders in Kerala

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday raided the premises of PFI chairman O M Abdul Salam and its national secretary Nasaruddin Elamaram in Kerala as part of a money laundering case probe, official sources said. The searches are being conducted in Malappuram and Thiruvananthapuram districts of the state, they said. The action is being carried out under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

10. Experts caution taxpayers, professionals on fake GST bills

A nationwide crackdown against the use of fake GST bills that led to arrest of over 90 people, including three chartered accountants, sent shockwaves among the errant professionals and taxpayers, prompting tax experts to warn them not to play with the legal provisions as tax authorities now have access to tax data in real-time basis to catch such frauds.
