New Delhi: Delhi's Tihar Jail is going to become the first jail in the country to have its own oxygen plant. Work on setting up this plant is going to start soon and it will start functioning by the end of this month.
The oxygen produced in this plant will be used for the prisoners. At present, oxygen cylinders are available for prisoners in the jail.
There is talk of a third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic coming across the country. In the second wave, the biggest problem across the country was the lack of oxygen. Therefore, emphasis is being laid on arranging oxygen before the third wave. Oxygen plants are being installed in various hospitals.
Tihar sources said that with the installation of an oxygen plant, it would be easy to provide oxygen to the jail inmates when needed. There is a 100-bed hospital in Tihar Jail No. 3 where oxygen can be provided to the patients from this plant. This project has been approved by the Delhi government.
