Tripura police seize three Italian pistol from train passenger

Dharmanagar police seized three Italian pistols and arrested one after a massive search operation was launched from Agartala bound Tripura Sundari Express on Thursday

Dharmanagar (North Tripura): Acting on a tip-off, Dharmanagar police on Thursday seized three Italian pistols and arrested one accused Janamani Chkama from Agartala bound Tripura Sundari Express on Thursday.

All the pistols are found to be point 7.65 mm in size. Speaking on the issue, Additional Superintendent of Police Francis Darlong said, “We have received secret information that some illegal firearms are being transported to Agartala through this train. After the train halted at the Dharmanagar station, a massive search operation was launched resulting in the arrest.”

From the primary interrogation, it is learnt that the accused person hails from the Gandacherra area. Initial reports from police said, Chakma was acting as a middleman to transport the firearm.

Police suspect possible nexus between him and proscribed outfits. They are interrogating the accused to trace out his other accomplices.
