Mumbai: The terror operatives arrested by the Delhi police's Special Cell were reportedly plotting to attack Mumbai local trains by releasing toxic chemicals during peak hours to inflict maximum damage.

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad stumbled upon the revelations during the interrogation of Mumbai-based suspect Jaan Mohammad Sheikh who was arrested along with five others for allegedly planning several blasts across the country during the upcoming festivals.

The state police in association with other agencies beefed up security at railway premises and other major installations in Mumbai following Sheikh's arrest in Rajasthan's Kota on September 14.

According to reports, Sheikh alias 'Sameer Kalia' has reportedly confessed to the investigation team of having links with the 'D-Company', the underworld criminal syndicate controlled by fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim.

A joint team of Mumbai police and Maharashtra ATS had questioned Sheikh's family members and neighbours and searched his house at Sion in Central Mumbai. Sheikh's wife and daughter and one Asghar Sheikh, who had booked Kalia's ticket from Mumbai to Delhi, were released by police after interrogation.
